At the inception of your insurance policy, you can opt to perform your own repairs in case of a partial loss, rather than having it repaired by a professional.
This option means that you commit to self-repair the aircraft whenever it is technically or legally feasible. The surveyor appointed in case of a claim will be in charge to determine whether the repair was legally and technically feasible by a private owner.
This will save some money to the insurer which will not have to pay for the labour cost (when the aircraft is technically and legally reparable). Therefore, this option entitles you to a discount of your insurance premium.
With the DO-IT-YOURSELF option, a £500 deductible applies in case the aircraft is self-repaired. In case the loss amount is greater than 75% of the insured value, you could decide whether you wish to repair it or to declare it as a total loss. (in case of a total loss, the DIY does not apply and the deductible will amount 1,500 GBP per occurrence).
